4 Week Class + PROFESSIONAL Recording Session
If you are interested in pursuing voice acting, we’ve created an affordable training course which includes inside perspectives as well as professional studio experience with voice coaching/directing and demo development.
Discover the voices inside of you and gain voice acting techniques that bring scripts to life. Gather knowledge of the types of voiceover including narration, commercial and audiobook reads as well as character voices, ventriloquism, singing and improv performing.
The class also includes the business of voice over, industry terms and insights. And every participant receives personalized coaching and multiple experiences behind the microphone in a studio setting!
Classes meet from 6pm - 8pm weekly on Tuesdays Apr 16, 23, 30 & May 7 at the studio
Professional Recording Session on either May 14 or May 21 (time TBD)
During the Red Amp Audio Professional Recording Session, each participant will record 1-3 scripts. The 1/2 hour recording session will be coached/directed, and the recorded voice will be edited and mixed with music and/or sfx. A fully produced :30 second demo will be sent to the participant. Extra recording time and other add-ons are available for additional fees.

Red Amp Audio is co-owned by Marna Bales and Jody Boyd and was established in 2009 as an expansion of Far West Audio which was founded in 2001.
The studio, located in downtown Richmond Virginia, has three audio recording / mix suites, a two story tracking room, an isolation booth and a podcast suite. Red Amp Audio is a TEC (Technical Excellence & Creativity) Award nominated studio for outstanding creative achievement in acoustics/facility design and was featured on the cover of Mix's Studio Design Class of 2010. Red Amp’s sound spaces were designed by award-winning architect Peter Grueneisen, FAIA (DreamWorks Animation, Dave Matthews Band, Sony Music Japan, Hans Zimmer).
Red Amp Audio occupies the 1st floor of the the 9WG Studios building which was built in 1938 as a showroom for the electrical appliances of the Wall-Whalen Company. Over the next 70 years, the building was home to companies including Remington Rand Office Supplies, Phillips Jewelers, Stage Center Productions, Island Recording Studios, Astro Roxy Music Shop, Radio Active Audio, McCavitt Productions and Sylvestro Photography.
Jody Boyd PRODUCER | ENGINEER | MIXER | MUSICIAN | STUDIO OWNER
Jody Boyd is Red Amp Audio’s Senior Audio Engineer, Music Composer, Sound Designer, Mixer, and Music Producer. He attended Virginia Tech as the honoree of various scholarships and finished his Bachelors of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. While working on his Masters degree, Jody was a graduate teaching assistant at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in New York.
Jody’s skills come from many decades immersed in professional music including performances with the Roanoke and Richmond Symphonies and numerous cover bands and indie bands. He has channeled his experience into his audio engineering and music compositions, award winning sound design and mixing skills for a wide variety of regional and national clients and projects.
Jody has a true gift of perfect pitch as well as being able to play many instruments (drums/percussion, guitar and keyboards). Jody is also a gifted songwriter and sought after music producer and has produced hundreds of recordings for regional artists and indie bands. Jody performs as a drummer in multiple regional groups including Fighting Gravity and Eyes of Silver (A Doobie Brothers Tribute Band) as well as performing as a guitarist in the 64 Crayons Band.
Rob Scoggins Jr. VOICE ARTIST | SINGER | WRITER| PRODUCTION MANAGER
Rob is a member of SAG/AFTRA and The Virginia Production Alliance (VPA). He has worked as a voice talent all his life and is also a character actor in Film and television/streaming channels.
Disney World was his home for many years before he found a spot working for Turner Sports. He later spent 10 years as a Cruise Director for NCL and then Owner and Host of a digital radio station. Rob has hosted a wide range of radio programs including sports, talk and news. He has conducted over a thousand celebrity interviews.

Marna Bales EXECUTIVE PRODUCER | VOCALIST | STUDIO OWNER
Marna Bales is a proud VCU alum with a degree in mass communications / public relations. As Executive Producer of Red Amp, Marna manages all things audio including scheduling, voice & musician casting, client and vendor relations, as well as producing radio and music projects.
Marna’s diverse resume includes advertising agency experience as the broadcast production management at the Martin Agency and corporate communications as a producer and project manager at Genworth Financial. And her introduction into the production industry began on the vendor side at a Richmond production facility where she wore many hats starting as scheduler, then production coordinator, and finally operations manager.
Marna also feels quite at home working behind the microphone. She is and a SAG-AFTRA member, was the Richmond Chapter Coordinator for NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) for 4 years and a CMA recording artist. As a band leader, vocalist and songwriter, Marna has performed thousands of shows, released 2 albums, an EP, three singles, three music videos, performed for the Queen of England, was a featured artist for the 2017 Virginia Inauguration Ceremony and has shared the stage with many country icons including Charlie Daniels. She currently plays hand drums and sings with her band, 64 Crayons.
